Huskers Helping the Homeless Raises Over $47,000

Matt Talbot hosted the 28th annual Huskers Helping the Homeless event the weekend of September 19 – 21 to raise awareness and critical funds for the agency’s homeless prevention and outreach programs. For three days, over 300 volunteers accepted monetary donations at local stores and from fans in the downtown area before the Nebraska v. Illinois football game. A celebration for volunteers and community members was held at Tower Square (13 & P Streets) before the football game on September 20th with games, music, face painting, and food. Thanks to generous donors, enthusiastic volunteers, and supportive sponsors, more than $47,000 was raised to support agency operations 365 days a year.

“Whether it was donating online, sponsoring the event, throwing $5 in a bucket before heading to the game, or volunteering for an hour or two – all of these contributions add up to a big impact and we are grateful,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director. “Together we are transforming lives and changing the game for our guests and our community.”

Matt Talbot is a hunger relief and outreach center for those in need that serves over 3,000 unduplicated clients annually.  Last year over 250,000 meals were provided through nutritious onsite prepared meals, emergency food pantries, and the distribution of high-quality donated food. Over 50,000 homeless prevention, case management, and substance use services are provided annually and the needs are increasing. Last year, Matt Talbot saw a 39% increase in the number of meals provided, a 21% increase in the number of guests served, and a 13% increase in the number of outreach services provided.
