September is Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, a national campaign to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of hunger. Matt Talbot works to relieve hunger by offering two nutritious prepared meals every day, providing food pantries for people who need food at home, and distributing high-quality fresh food from local restaurants and grocery stores.

“We take for granted the choices we have when deciding what to eat for dinner,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director. “Many of our guests experiencing hunger face a very different type of choice when they have to choose between food and other basic needs such as rent, medical care, childcare, or electricity.”

Businesses, faith communities, service organizations, and families are encouraged to take part in Hunger Action Month by joining together to serve a meal or conduct a food drive. Items most needed include canned meats, low-sugar whole-grain cereal, peanut butter, and other prepackaged items that don’t require preparation like granola bars, nuts, or dried fruit. Grocery gift cards are also needed. Contact Lori Wellman at lori.wellman@mtko.org or 402-817-0621 for more information. Let’s work together to end hunger in Lincoln!
