Excessive heat warnings continue today, putting already vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness at increased risk of heat-related illnesses.
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is typically open as a day shelter Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 6:30 pm except on Thursday afternoons when the facility is closed for street outreach and team meetings. Lunch and dinner are served every day of the week. Due to the excessive heat, agency leaders have taken the unprecedented step of opening the dining room as a cooling center on Sunday from 11:30 am – 6:30 pm.
“Dangerously high temperatures are especially tough for our guests experiencing homelessness who may already struggle with other challenges such as addiction, mental illness, and food insecurity,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director of Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach. “We are here as a safe refuge and we encourage anyone in need to come inside.”
Daily meals are served from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm.
