Small Shifts

Small, daily shifts in the earth’s rotation are bringing more sunshine, rain, green, chirps and an overall awakening of nature after the dormant winter. Little-by-little, with incremental shifts the days have been lengthening and we have arrived at spring! “Small shifts lead to big results” is a common phrase, especially in health and wellness. Often it is small, intentional shifts or small, specific goals that lead to the most rewarding achievements. Vincent Van Gogh said, “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” This illustrates the small, individual actions that lead to the whole mission and greatness of Matt Talbot. The same can be true for health for everyone at Matt Talbot, from guests to volunteers to staff: Small shifts toward health can lead to big results. What is the desired ‘big result’? For everyone to live their healthiest life so they can fully live the mission they were created for. What are some ‘small shifts’ that can lead to the healthiest life?

Here are some ideas:

  • Swap yogurt for sour cream
  • Use less chocolate chips and add dried fruit
  • Shift self-talk from ‘I failed’ to ‘I’m learning and still trying’
  • Experiment with herbs & spices instead of salt
  • Slow down and savor
  • Try a walk with friends instead of coffee/lunch
  • Plant a vegetable seed
  • Use 1% instead of whole milk
  • Bake instead of fry
  • Cook with olive or canola oil instead of butter

The list of potential small shifts is endless! Be adventurous. Try new things. Experiment. All for the sake of shifting into health so everyone can live to their created potential! What small health shifts could be made to the recipes and food served at Matt Talbot?
