Shine the Light
A Walk to Illuminate Efforts to Defeat Hunger and Homelessness
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach hosted the second annual SHINE THE LIGHT walk on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Antelope Park. The event raised awareness about the challenges faced by people experiencing unsheltered homelessness during the winter. The 1-mile family and group-friendly walk allowed community members to imagine what homelessness feels like in the winter and learn how to help.
Before the walk, attendees heard from Juan Carlos Huertas, Minister of Proclamation and Practice of Justice at First Plymouth Church. Following his remarks, participants walked an illuminated path through the park. Signs along the course provided walkers with opportunities to learn about Matt Talbot, homelessness, and how to support our mission.
Thank you to the 107 walkers, 23 volunteers, and 3 sponsors for making this event happen!
We are thrilled to share that the event raised $7,257.60 to support Matt Talbot’s programs and services. We also received donations of blankets for our guests.
Donations of blankets are still being accepted at Matt Talbot through the winter months. Donations can be dropped off Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM – 4 PM at 2121 N. 27th Street or by appointment.
It was a beautiful evening, and we couldn't have done it without the incredible support of our community.
From everyone at Matt Talbot, thank you!
